Lily Carrick, Santa Barbara City College Swimming
Shams Jahangir-Arshad, San Marcos Golf

Carrick and Jahangir-Arshad were honored at Monday’s Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table Press Luncheon on Monday at Harry’s Plaza Cafe.

In the pool, Carrick played a critical role in SBCC bringing home the school’s first-ever state title in swimming by setting a new state record of 4:29.59 in the 400 individual medley.

She wasn’t done there, however, as she also placed 2nd in the 500 freestyle and 4th in the 100 freestyle. She also swam on the four winning relay teams for the Vaqueros.

Jahangir-Arshad also shined last week, finishing a whopping 13-under-par en route to a Channel League Individual Championship.

He was dominant from start to finish, wrapping up the two-day event nine strokes ahead of the field. He ended the championship with 14 total birdies and just one bogey.

The girls honorable mentions were Cora Loomer (SM Beach Volleyball), Josie Gamberdella (SM Beach Volleyball), Charlotte Hastings (SM Softball), Tiana Monaghan (SM Softball), Emma Foster (SM Softball), Kendall Keshen (Laguna Swim), Mia Martinez-Tomatis (SM Lacrosse) and Avery Leck (SM Track & Field).

Meanwhile, the boys honorable mentions were Jake Villar (SBCC Baseball), Raglan Kear (SB Volleyball), Micah Goss (DP Volleyball), Daniel Finneran (DP Lacrosse), Phin Stephenson (Cate Swim), Bennett Sullivan (Laguna Swim) and Blaise Snow (SB Track & Field).

The Athlete of the Week award winners are selected by the local sports media. Coaches are encouraged to nominate deserving athletes. Nominations should be sent to sports@noozhawk.com by Saturday morning, if possible.

The award is sponsored by the law firm of Maho-Prentice.
