Santa Barbara High baseball’s Zeke Adderley and Cate lacrosse’s Maia Holmes put together strong weeks last week en route to being named the Athletes of the Week.
Adderley and Holmes were honored at Monday’s Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table Press Luncheon at Harry’s Plaza Cafe.
In the team’s Spring Break tournament in Arizona, Adderley got the job done both offensively and on the mound.
After roping a two-run homer and a two-run double in a 13-2 win over Medford, the junior turned around and struck out five in 4 ⅔ solid innings of work to earn the win against Galena.
Holmes helped her team to a pair of big wins last week thanks to her offensive ability.
She netted four goals in a comfortable 12-3 win over Nordhoff and then turned around and willed her team to an impressive win over Valencia, scoring six of the team’s seven goals.
The boys honorable mentions were Will Neubauer (Bishop Diego Volleyball), Damien Krautmann (Bishop Diego Volleyball), Kai Mault (Santa Barbara Baseball), Liam Keithley (Santa Barbara Baseball), Ben Zoltoski (Bishop Diego Baseball), Jake Ehlers (Carpinteria Swim) and Jacob Otsuki (Carpinteria Swim).
Meanwhile, the girls honorable mentions were Lauren Weeks (Bishop Diego Softball), Tessa Johansen (Bishop Diego Softball), Madeline Ferries (Bishop Diego Softball), Lilli Nemetz (Carpinteria Swim), Izzy Scott (Carpinteria Swim) and Sophia Ospina (Cate Lacrosse)
The Athlete of the Week award winners are selected by the local sports media. Coaches are encouraged to nominate deserving athletes. Nominations should be sent to sports@noozhawk.com by Saturday morning, if possible.
