San Marcos came away with both Athletes of the Week this week, as Sierra Tallman of the Royals’ swim team and Cameron Earls of San Marcos volleyball put together strong performances to earn the honors.
Tallman was honored at Monday’s Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table Women in Sports Luncheon while Earls will be recognized at the Round Table Press Luncheon on April 1st.
In a pair of meets last week, Tallman was stellar for the Royals. Against Ventura, she placed first in the 100 breaststroke and was a member of the 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay teams, each of which came out on top.
Over the weekend at the Mt. SAC Invite, she finished first in the 100 freestyle and 200 freestyle while also helping the Royals in the 200 freestyle relay (1st), 200 medley relay (3rd) and 400 freestyle relay (4th).
Meanwhile, Earls led the Royals to their second straight Dos Pueblos Invitational championship over the weekend after the team went undefeated without dropping a set.
Earls was named the MVP of the invitational after dishing out over 100 assists and raising up for 12 solo blocks on the day.
The girls honorable mentions were Zella Cassidy (Dos Pueblos Softball), Amarisse Camargo (Carpinteria Softball), Taylor Steelman (San Marcos Swim), Briar Sorenson (San Marcos Lacrosse) and Avery Leck (San Marcos Track).
For the boys, the honorable mentions were Erik Perez (San Marcos Baseball), Eric Anthony (Santa Barbara Baseball), Jacob Otsuki (Carpinteria Swim), Shams Jahangir-Arshad (San Marcos Golf), Max Stone (Carpinteria Tennis), Wes Chung (Carpinteria Track).
The Athlete of the Week award winners are selected by the local sports media. Coaches are encouraged to nominate deserving athletes. Nominations should be sent to sports@noozhawk.com by Saturday morning, if possible.
