Round Table Luncheon: Teleios Zermeno Named Providence’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year

Teleios Zermeno was honored as Providence School’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year at Monday’s Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table Luncheon at Harry’s Plaza Cafe.

Along with Zermeno being honored, spring sports teams gave early-season updates as most head into league play this week.

Providence School Scholar-Athlete of the Year

Zermeno is a standout student for the Patriots both on the court and in the field as well as in the classroom.

The senior plays beach volleyball, indoor volleyball and track & field for Providence. He is also a member of the Santa Barbara Royals Ice Hockey team.

“He’s just a phenomenal athlete and a super smart kid,” Providence athletic director Dan Terry said. “I’m happy to present him with this award.”

To go along with his dedication to his teams, Zermeno holds a 4.5 GPA as a student and has been on the Head of School’s List for all four years of high school.

He plans to play ice hockey in college and is interested in studying mechanical engineering.

“I wanted to give a big thank you to all my teachers and coaches who have pushed me to be a better student and a stronger athlete,” Zermeno said. “I want to thank my family who’s given me support for the last four years through my high school journey.

“I have a passion for competing in athletics and it’s just been a great joy to get to do this the past four years of high school and I can’t wait to do it more.”

Zermeno joins Cate’s Sebastian Sutch, Dos Pueblos’ Jaden Moore, San Marcos’ Matthew Chung, Santa Barbara’s Andreas Dybdahl, Carpinteria’s Asher Smith and Bishop Diego’s Abigail Garcia as this year’s recipients of the award.

The honor is sponsored by Marc Gamberdella of the Gamberdella-Spruill Group of Merrill Lynch.
