Andreas Dybdahl captured an individual CIF title for Santa Barbara High boys cross country while Bishop Diego basketball’s Jaymi Coronado led her team to a 4-0 start to the season last week.
These achievements earned them this week’s Athlete of the Week honors.
Dybdahl continued his stellar season on Saturday by placing first in the CIF-SS Division 2 race, clinching an individual CIF title with a time of 14:04.5 for the three-mile race.
The UCLA commit’s efforts also helped lead the Dons to an overall team CIF Division 2 title, clinching the team a spot in the state meet on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Coronado got off to a scorching start to the season, averaging 14.5 points, seven rebounds and four steals per game for the first four games of the year.
On top of this, Coronado’s Cardinals are undefeated so far and have defeated opponents by an average margin of 15 points per game.
The boys honorable mentions were Jacob Magid (San Marcos Water Polo), Joe Pasternack (San Marcos Basketball) and Luke Zuffelato (Santa Barbara Basketball).
On the girls side, the honorable mentions were Taylor Grant (Dos Pueblos Basketball), Carly Letendre (Dos Pueblos Basketball), Galilea De La Cruz (Bishop Diego Basketball) and Amarisse Camargo (Carpinteria Basketball).
There was no SBART Press Luncheon on Monday due to the Thanksgiving holiday week. Dybdahl and Coronado will be presented their awards on Monday, Nov. 27 at Harry’s Plaza Cafe.
The Athlete of the Week award winners are selected by the local sports media. Coaches are encouraged to nominate deserving athletes. Nominations should be sent to sports@noozhawk.com by Saturday morning, if possible.
