San Marcos boys water polo’s Will Stuart and Cate girls tennis’ duo of Frances Davis and Lisa Hasebe helped lead their teams to CIF titles last week, earning Athlete of the Week honors.
Stuart, Davis and Hasebe were honored at Monday’s Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table Press Luncheon at Harry’s Plaza Cafe.
Stuart and the Royals took down Portola by a score of 12-6 in the semifinals and followed that up by coming out on top over Dos Pueblos in the CIF Division 2 championship by a score of 9-6.
In those games, Stuart was a standout, scoring twice against Portola and leading all players with a trio of goals against the Chargers to power his team to a title.
Meanwhile, Davis and Hasebe were dominant on the doubles courts last week, going undefeated in the quarterfinals, semifinals and championship match of the CIF Division 3 tournament.
The pairing came up with multiple clutch wins throughout the playoff run, including an upset of Cerritos’ top duo in the semifinals to help contribute to the 10-8 win.
The boys’ honorable mentions were Andreas Dybdahl (Santa Barbara Cross Country), Sebastian Sutch (Cate Cross Country), Kai Mault (Santa Barbara Football), Reggie Robles (Dos Pueblos Water Polo) and Luke Burns (San Marcos Water Polo).
On the girls’ side, the honorable mentions were Kiala Haas (San Marcos Cross Country) and Francesca Sutch).
