Dylan Long’s solid play on the bocce court led his Santa Barbara Special Olympics team to a silver medal at a tournament in Camarillo last weekend.

Long was honored at Monday’s Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table Press Luncheon as the Special Olympics Athlete of the Month.
Coach Jamie Rutiaga said Long also did well in a tournament in Santa Barbara a couple of weeks ago.
“He has solidified his team, he’s brought a very analytical approach to the game and his great work with the rest of the teammates helps them along and keeps them positive,” said Artiaga. “Bocce is a very finesse game, very analytical geometry on the court, and he does an excellent job.”
Long will be taking a Santa Barbara team to the Special Olympics Summer Games in Long Beach in June.
“Hopefully, he gets the gold down there,” said Artiaga.
