San Marcos baseball pitcher Cole Schoenwetter and Makenzie Fauver of the Royals’ track & field team were honored as the Athletes of the Week at Monday’s Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table Press Luncheon at Harry’s Plaza Cafe.
In a non-league game against CIF-SS Division 3 third-ranked Valencia, Schoenwetter struck out 14 in 6.1 innings and combined with reliever Caden Hodina on a no-hitter in a 5-1 victory.
The senior right-hander, who has signed with UCSB, also had a hit and scored a run.
Fauver continued to dominate the hurdles events at the All-City Meet with Channel League rivals Dos Pueblos and Santa Barbara. She won the 100 and 300 hurdles (15.84 and 48.97, respectively) to remain undefeated in league competition.
In addition, she captured first place in the high jump (4-9) and finished second in the triple jump with a personal-best mark (33-3).
The female honorable mention choices include Bella Nuño (Dos Pueblos softball) and Ava Carter (San Marcos track & field).
The other male athletes considered for the award were Andreas Dybdahl (Santa Barbara track & field), Jackson Melton (Carpinteria swimming), Davis Flanagin (Santa Barbara track & field) and Ethan Bell (San Marcos track & field).
