San Marcos swimmer Sierra Tallman and Jack Wilson of the Royals’ boys volleyball team were recognized as the Athletes of the Week at Monday’s Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table Press Luncheon at Harry’s Plaza Cafe.
Tallman had a big day at the Mt. SAC Winterfest Invitational. She won the 200 freestyle in a pool-record time of 1:51.91 and captured the 100 free in 51.84. She also helped the Royals take first place in the 400 free relay and finish second in the 200 free relay.
Wilson was named the MVP of the 46th annual Dos Pueblos Invitational, leading the Royals to the championship on Saturday. They went undefeated, winning three pool-play matches and three playoff games. San Marcos defeated St. Francis in the final.
On Friday, Wilson had 15 kills in a tight five-set loss against Santa Barbara.
The other male student athletes considered for the Athlete of the Week award were Xander Hajda (Dos Pueblos baseball) Nikko Carrillo (Dos Pueblos swimming), Cooper Costello (Dos Pueblos swimming), Jaran Depew (San Marcos swimming), Jed Greenwell (San Marcos tennis), Davis Flanigan (Santa Barbara track & field).
The female honorable mention choices were Mia Reveles (Dos Pueblos softball) and Makenzie Fauver (San Marcos track & field).
The Athletes of the Week are selected by members of the local sports media. Coaches are encouraged to nominate athletes. Nominations are due by Sunday at 12 p.m.
