The Monday, Feb. 6 Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table Press Luncheon featured a tribute to retired San Marcos High Athletic Director Abe Jahadhmy by one of his former Royals soccer players and assistant coaches Ken Newendorp.
Jahadhmy served as a coach and administrator at San Marcos for 35 years.
Newendorp, who played four years under Jahadhmy and coached with him for 10, said his former coach “turned me into who I am today.”
He praised Jahadhmy for getting the best out his student athletes. “He also cared about this student athletes and soccer players more than any coach I’ve ever been around.”
Newendorp appreciated how Jahadhmy opened “our eyes to the diversity within our program.”
He added that all of Jahadhmy’s work and the lessons he taught over the last 35 years will never be forgotten.
“We’re all much better off for that, and that is part of what makes our community so special.
“Thank you for over 35 years as one of the community’s premier coaches, leaders and mentors.”
The agenda also included the Phil Womble Ethics in Sports Award honoree from Cate School, the Athletes of the Week and the Noozhawk 2022 All-South Coast Football Team.
