Lauren Elliott of the Dos Pueblos girls lacrosse team and Jed Greenwald of San Marcos tennis were honored as the Athletes of the Week at Monday’s Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table Press Luncheon at Harry’s Plaza Cafe.
Elliott, a junior, reached the 100-goal career milestone last week in a 19-7 win against Thacher. She scored six goals in the game and had two assists, caused four turnovers and won six face-off draws. She also scored six goals in win over Santa Barbara earlier in the week.
The Chargers are 4-0 in Channel League and have key matches this week against Cate and San Marcos on Tuesday and Thursday, respectively.
Greenwald came up big for the San Marcos tennis team in a tight victory at CIF-SS Division 1 10th-ranked Loyola in Los Angeles. He won two sets by scores of 6-1, 6-0, which helped the Royals take the match on total games, 77-72. The teams finished in a 9-9 deadlock in sets.
As a result of the win, San Marcos moved into the No. 9 spot in this week’s Division 1 rankings.
The honorable mention choices for this week’s award are Jacob Snodgress (San Marcos track & field), Zach White (Cate swimming), Blaise Snow (Santa Barbara High track & field), Jessica Reveles (Dos Pueblos softball) and Jessica Norman (San Marcos diving).
