Big performances from Tyler Williams and Kayalily Penn of Bishop Diego have earned them Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table Athlete of the Week honors.
The student athletes will be presented their awards at the next SBART Press Luncheon at Harry’s Plaza Cafe on Monday, Feb. 28. There was no luncheon this Monday due to the Presidents’ Day holiday.
Williams led the Bishop Diego boys basketball team to a pair of victories to put the Cardinals in the CIF-SS Division 3A semifinals. They’ll play at St. Pius X-St. Matthias in Downey on Tuesday.
Williams poured in 31 points in a second-round win at John Burroughs in Burbank and followed with a 27-point performance against Bell Gardens in a quarterfinal victory.
Penn has been a goal-scoring machine for the Bishop Diego girls soccer team.
She had back-to-back two-goal games in wins over Cobalt Institute and Indio in the second round and quarterfinals, respectively.
The four goals give her 12 in the playoffs and 41 on the season.
The Cardinals will host Geffen Academy in a Division 7 semifinal game on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
