A pair of Dos Pueblos High basketball players were honored as the Athletes of the Week at the final Santa Babara Athletic Round Table Press Luncheon of 2021 on Monday at Harry Plaza Cafe.
Senior Lily Mires of the 6-1 DP girls team and junior Grant Hughes from the 3-3 boys squad received the awards for leading their respective teams to three victoreies last week.
Mires was named the MVP of the Central Coast Classic, co-hosted by Dos Pueblo and St. Bonaventure. She scored 65 points, grabbed 32 rebounds and blocked 12 shots in the Charger victories.
She had a career-best 28 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and blocked five shots in a 73-36 win over Foothill Tech in the tournament finale.
Hughes was the high scorer for the DP boys in three road wins. He scored 25 at Rio Mesa, 18 against Clovis and 16 against Mission Prep.
The honorable mention choices for the awards were Ava Stryker (San Marcos water polo), Daniel Boateng (Cate soccer) and Juan Torres (San Marcos wrestling).
The Athletes of the Week Award is sponsored by the Santa Barbara law firm Maho-Prentice.
