Will Bouma, quarterback for the top-ranked Cate School 8-man football team, and Laguna Blanca golfer Jayla Provance were named the Athletes of the Week at Monday’s Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table Press Luncheon at Harry’s Plaza Cafe on Monday.
Provance, the No. 1 player for the Owls, shot a 3-under par 32 at Buenaventura Golf Course to lead her team to first place in the second Tri-Valley League tournament. Her round included an eagle on the par-5 18th hole.
Provance also shot a 32 in the first TVL tournament at Buenaventura.
Bouma threw for six touchdown passes, including the game-winner with 47 seconds left, propelling Cate to a 42-34 victory over Faith Baptist, the No. 2-ranked 8-man football team in Division 2.
Bouma, who has committed to Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, has led the Rams to a 6-0 record.
Cate plays undefeated and No. 2-ranked Thacher for the Mt. Pinos League championship on Saturday in Ojai.
The male honorable mention choices include Johnny Alvarado (Bishop Diego football), Jack Kilpatrick (SBCC football), Trent Williams (Santa Barbara High football) and Nick Randazzo (UCSB cross country).
The other female candidates for the award were Anna DiSorbo (Cate cross country) and Piper Ellbogn-Petersen (SBCC volleyball).
The Athletes of the Week are chosen by a vote of the local sports media. The award is sponsored by the law firm of Maho-Prentice.
