The distance runners took top honors at the Channel League Preview Meet during the week, and continued to run well at the Ojai Invitational over the weekend to earn Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table Athletes of the Week honors on Monday.

The pair were presented their awards at the weekly SBART Press Luncheon at Harry’s Plaza Cafe.

Also recognized were the previous week’s winners: Abel Renteria of the Santa Barbara High football team and Dos Pueblos golfer Chelsi Ramirez.

Wolfe Lyons ran away from the field of runners representing all six Channel League schools, and won the girls 3-mile race on the hilly Dos Pueblos on-campus course in 19 minutes, 12 seconds.

On Saturday, the junior placed fourth in the 3-mile race at the Ojai Invitational in 19:49, helping the Chargers place second behind Division 1 top-10 ranked Saugus.

Snow fought off some jostling on the final turn into the home stretch, and won the boys title at the Channel League Preview in a personal-best of 15:38.

The sophomore followed that performance with a victory in the 1.9-mile short-course race at the Ojai Invitational to lead a Santa Barbara sweep of the top five places. His time was 10:11.02.

The honorable mention choices this week for male athletes include Gabe Martinez (Bishop Diego football), Jorge Figueroa (SBCC football) and Nathan Barrios (Santa Barbara High football).

The other female candidates for the award were Ava Cole (San Marcos volleyball), Portia Sherman (Dos Pueblos volleyball) and Jacelin McKie (SBCC volleyball).

Coaches are encouraged to nominate their student athletes for the Athletes of the Week awards. Nominations should be sent by Sunday at 10 a.m. to sports@noozhawk.com.
