The honorees, both juniors, stepped up in big games to lead their respective teams to victories.

Gossett scored four touchdowns, gained 178 yards on 23 carries and broke off a 45-yard run for the winning score in the final 1:15 as unbeaten Bishop Diego defeated Liberty of Bakersfield, 28-21, on Saturday at La Playa Stadium.

Gossett rushed for three scores and caught a touchdown pass against the CIF-Central Section Division 1 power.

In a tight first set against crosstown rival Santa Barbara High, Hoadley came off the bench and served an ace followed by another tough serve that resulted in an overpass kill in a 25-21 victory. The Royals went on to sweep the Dons. Hoadley had six kills in the match.

In a sweep against Lompoc, she put away 10 kills on 11 swings and served five aces.

The female honorable mention choices for the award included Sagarika Manian (Dos Pueblos golf), Caroline McCarty (SBCC volleyball) and Eden Tal (SBCC water polo).
