Allie Fryklund and Cade McLean of San Marcos were honored as the Athletes of the Week at Monday’s Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table press luncheon.
Fryklund, a senior pitcher for the Royals’ softball team, won three games last week, including a 6-0 one-hitter against Santa Ynez, where she struck 15. He totaled 37 strikes in the three wins.
At the plate, she batted 7 for 12, with a home run, triple and seven RBI.
McLean headed in the game-winning goal in San Marcos’ 2-1 soccer victory over Santa Barbara High in a first-place showdown. The win put the Royals in sole possession of first place in the Channel League.
In addition, McLean started at middle blocker in volleyball matches against Santa Barbara and Dos Pueblos. He had eight kills in a sweep of DP.
The other male candidates for Athlete of the Week were Ryan Speshyock (Dos Pueblos baseball), Leo Metzger (San Marcos golf) and Asher Smith (Carpinteria swimming).
The female honorable mention choices include Lilly Riehl (Cate lacrosse) and Ari Tapia (Dos Pueblos basketball).
