Dos Pueblos student athletes from the baseball and softball diamond were honored as the Athletes of the Week at the first Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table press luncheon in more than a year.
Kellan Montgomery of the Chargers’ baseball team and Georgia Wilson from the softball squad were recognized at the first press luncheon held outdoors on Monday at The Creekside restaurant.
Montgomery helped DP to a pair of victories in the Santa Barbara County Tournament. In a 2-0 win over San Marcos, he scored the winning run in the top of the seventh inning and pitched in the bottom of the inning, retiring the Royals in order to earn the save.
The junior started on the mound against Santa Ynez and threw five innings of a combined no-hitter and struck out seven. The Chargers won 13-0 to even their record at 3-3. Montgomery also plays catcher.
Wilson, a freshman for the DP softball team, showed her stuff on the mound and in the batter’s. She threw a complete-game five-hitter and went 4-for-4, with two doubles, in an 11-1 victory over Righetti.
The other female student athletes considered for the award include Lexi Malone of the unbeaten Westmont volleyball team; Allie Fryklund of San Marcos softball; Melia Haller of Santa Barbara High golf and Alannah Cetti of Santa Barbara High lacrosse.
The male honorable mention choices were sprinter Vincent Rinaldi of Carpinteria track & field; UCSB pitcher Michael McGreevy and San Marcos soccer player AJ Ranii.
The Athletes of the Week candidates are selected Noozhawk and voted on by members of the local sports media.
