Isa Silva of Dos Pueblos capped a league championship season with a podium finish at the CIF-SS Northern Regional Girls Wrestling Championships.
It was the best finish by any girls wrestler on the South Coast in CIF postseason competition.
The Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table is honoring Silva as the High School Girls Wrestler of the Year.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Silva and the other high school and college athletes of the year for fall and winter sports are being honored in a virtual format. The Round Table is presenting the awards through its social media platforms of Twitter, Instagram and Facebook and on the noozhawk.com Sports Page.
Awards for spring sports will not be presented because the season was cut short by the coronavirus outbreak.
Silva joined the DP girls wrestling program when it started in the 2018-19 season. She qualified for CIF in that first year.
As a senior this past season, she went unbeaten in Channel League and won the league’s individual title at 160 pounds. She often wrestled against girls that were two weight classes above her, said her coach Arianna McDonald.
Silva placed third at the CIF-SS Northern Regional and advanced to the CIF Southern California Championships, the state meet qualifier.
“She is extremely dedicated to the sport,” said McDonald. “She was awarded the MVP for the DP girls team this season.”
Silva plans to attend college in the fall.
