SBCC Defensive End Jacob Shultz Named Round Table College Football Player of Year

SBCC defensive end Jacob Shultz recorded 20.5 tackles for loss, ninth best in the state.

Once SBCC defensive end Jacob Shultz got going. there was no stopping him from making plays.

The sophomore had just one sack in the first five games of the season before a breakout performance in the Vaqueros’ American Pacific League opener. He recorded four sacks, had six solo and nine total tackles and returned a fumble 70 yards for a touchdown in a 35-16 win over L.A. Pierce.

He was unstoppable from that point on and was recognized as the APL’s Defensive Player of the Year.

The Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table has named Shultz as its College Football Player of the Year.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Round Table is recognizing Shultz and all the college and high school athletes of the year through a virtual Evening With The Athletes. The award winners are being presented through the Round Table’s social media platforms Twitter, Instagram and Facebook and on the Noozhawk.com Sports Page.

Shultz’s 71 total tackles and 20.5 tackles for loss were tops in the APL and ranked 21st and ninth, respectively, in state community college football.

“Jake had an outstanding season, leading our defense and was a disruptive force on opposing offenses,” said SBCC coach Craig Moropoulos of the native of Eugene, Ore.  “He was very difficult to block with his athletic ability and speed. He was a redshirt last season and was extremely hard to block on the ‘scout’ team for our offense.”

Shultz is looking to continue his career at either Southeastern University in Florida of the NAIA or Chapman University, a NCAA Division 3 school.

“Wherever he goes, he will make a big difference in that program,” said Moropoulos.
