Anna DiSorbo Was a Sophomore Sensation for Cate’s Cross Country Team

Sophomore Anna DiSorbo led the Cate girls cross country team to an 11th-place finish in Division 5 at the CIF State Championship.

It didn’t take long for Anna DiSorbo to make an impact in high school cross country.

The Cate School runner put together an impressive sophomore season. She won the Santa Barbara County title, placed second in a strong Tri-County Athletic Association, qualified for the CIF-Southern Section Prelims and Finals and advanced to the CIF State Championships, where she finished 23rd and was the fourth sophomore overall in the Division 5 race.

DiSorbo’s accomplishments have earned her the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table High School Girls Cross Country Runner of the Year honor.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Round Table is recognizing its high school and college athletes of the year through a virtual Evening With the Athletes. The award winners are being presented through the Round Table’s social media platforms Twitter, Instagram and Facebook and on the noozhawk.com Sports Page.

Sunday’s Award: Boys Water Polo

DiSorbo led a Cate team of sophomores and freshmen to a second-place finish at the Santa Barbara County Championships, a third at the CIF-SS Division 5 finals and an 11th place at the CIF State Cross Country Championships at Woodward Park in Fresno.

Individually, she finished sixth at the Southern Section finals in a personal best of 18:51 on the 5k Riverside Cross Country Course and placed 23rd at the State Meet. Her time at the section finals was the fourth fastest all time by a Cate female runner.

“In only two seasons, she has compiled the best record of any Cate female distance runner in 30 years,” said coach Karl Weis.

DiSorbo has impressed her coach from the first day she started running for Cate.

“Anna is hard-working, focused, and mature beyond her years,” he said “Her humility and leadership by example are remarkable for a sophomore. Her quiet demeanor masks a fierce competitor, but someone who cares for her teammates and wants the team to succeed.

“As she gains more experience, runs in more races, and begins to understand what she is truly capable of, we will be witness to extraordinary accomplishments in the next two falls.”
