Westmont women’s basketball player Stefanie Berberabe and JaQuori of the UCSB men’s basketball team were recognized as the Athletes of the Week at Monday’s Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table press luncheon at Harry’s Plaza Cafe.
Berberabe scored a team-high 26 points for the Warriors in 76-67 championship game victory over The Master’s in the Golden State Athletic Conference Tournament.
It was a conference-record fifth straight tournament title for Westmont.
Berberabe also led the Warriors in scoring with 19 points in their 74-54 semifinal victory over William Jessup.
Westmont (27-3) will learn its draw in the NAIA National Tournament on Wednesday. The tournament starts March 18 in Billings, Mont.
McLaughlin made a buzzer-beating fade-away jumper in the lane to give UCSB a 69-67 win over Cal Poly at the Thunderdome in the Big West regular-season finale. He scored 17 points and had six assists in the win.
In a 55-53 win over Cal State Fullerton, McLaughlin tied a career high with eight assists while having just one turnover.
UCSB (21-10) is seeded third for the Big West Tournament and opens play against UC Riverside on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at the Honda Center in Anaheim.
The male honorable mention choices this week include: Chase Hoover (San Marcos baseball), Finn Walker (Laguna Blanca volleyball), Leo Metzger (San Marcos golf).
The other female nominees for the award were: Danae Miller (UCSB basketball), Olivia Geyling (Dos Pueblos lacrosse), Bella Nuno (Dos Pueblos softball) and Maud Ranger (Westmont basketball).
