Hayden Carlson of the Dos Pueblos boys soccer team and Westmont women’s basketball player Maud Rangers were named the Athletes of the Week at the first Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table press luncheon of 2020 on Monday at Harry’s Plaza Cafe.
Carlson headed in the game-winning goal in a 3-2 comeback victory by the Chargers against Hart in the championship game of the Hart Tournament.
Dos Pueblos rallied from a 2-0 deficit in the game. Carlson was named the tournament’s MVP.
Ranger tore it up in three Westmont victories. She had a double-double of 14 points and 16 rebounds in a 75-53 win over Life Pacific in a GSAC game on the road; scored 24 and made eight three-pointers in a 77-53 win over the University of Alberta, Canada, and had 17 points, and nine boards in a 109-80 win over NAIA No. 20-ranked Olivet Nazarene.
Ranger is Westmont’s leading rebounder and three-point shooter and is second on the team in scoring.
Westmont (11-2) is ranked fourth in the NAIA.
The other female athletes considered for Athlete of the Week include Faith Tedesco (Santa Barbara High water polo), Megan Musick (San Marcos water polo) and Coco Miller (UCSB basketball).
The male honorable mention choices include Brandon Lazcano (Santa Barbara High wrestling), Sean Yamasaki (Dos Pueblos wrestling), JaQuori McLaughlin (UCSB basketball), Abram Carrasco (Westmont basketball), Tyler Williams (Bishop Diego basketball), Juan Carlos Torres (Santa Barbara High soccer).
