The knack of scoring goals make Dylan Fogg and Mekaylla White incredibly valuable to their respective teams.
The water polo and soccer standouts were rewarded for their special talent on Monday by being named the Athletes of the Week at the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table press luncheon at Harry’s Plaza Cafe.
Fogg’s goal scoring was instrumental in Santa Barbara High’s run to the CIF-SS Division 3 boys water polo championship.
The senior scored 13 goals in the team’s last three wins — five in the quarterfinals against No. 2 seed Los Osos, five in a semifinal victory over Northwood and three in the second half of the championship triumph win over Schurr, including two in the decisive fourth period.
White has been on a goal-scoring tear for the SBCC women’s soccer team. She recorded back-to-back hat tricks in wins over Oxnard and Moorpark to help the Vaqueros win their third straight WSC North Division championship.
White, who has notched four hat tricks this season, finished as the WSC leader in goals with 18.
In addition to Fogg and White, Santa Barbara High football quarterback Deacon Hill and Dos Pueblos cross country runner Phoebe Wolfe Lyons were honored as the Athletes of the Week for Nov. 11.
This week’s honorable mention choices for the female athlete award include Danae Miller (UCSB basketball) and Patty Kerman (Westmont volleyball).
The other male nominees for the award include: Deacon Hill (Santa Barbara High football), Dakota Hill (Santa Barbara High football), Joshua Rosales (Santa Barbara High football) and Justin Bessare (Westmont basketball).
