Santa Barbara’s Noach Wood, Cate’s Anna DiSorbo Named Athletes of the Week

A runner who tries to beat the clock and a defensive lineman who stops the run have been selected as the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table’s Athletes of the Week.

Santa Barbara High’s Noach Wood and Cate School’s Anna DiSorbo were announced as the male and female winners during Monday’s luncheon at Harry’s Plaza Café.

Wood, a 5-11, 245-pound defensive tackle, had two sacks, several tackles for loss and disrupted San Marcos’ offense in a 38-12 Big Game football victory by the Dons. He earned the the Gary Blades Memorial Trophy which goes to the MVP of the Big Game. He’s only the second defensive player to win the award.

DiSorbo, a sophomore from Las Vegas, shattered the Cate course record with a time of 18:49 and led the Rams to a perfect score in an 8-team race.

“Anna combines a great work ethic with an instinctual feel for running each race,” said Cate cross country coach Karl Weis. “She knows exactly when to run hard and make her move.”

Female honorable mention candidates were Taylor Brooks (SBCC water polo), Bri Johnson (Westmont soccer), Julia Gregson (Bishop Diego volleyball) and Phoebe Wolfe-Lyons (Dos Pueblos cross country).

The male honorable mentions were Tyler Young (Westmont soccer), Conner Lee (Dos Pueblos football) and Joseph Pearlman (Dos Pueblos cross country).
