Clutch performances by Ty Montgomery of Santa Barbara High football and UCSB volleyball’s Torre Glasker helped their respective teams to important victories to put them in first place.
Their efforts have been rewarded with Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table Athlete of the Week honors on Monday.
There was no press luncheon this week, so Montgomery and Glasker will be honored at next Monday’s luncheon at Harry’s Plaza Cafe on Oct. 28.
Montgomery kicked field goals of 45 and 26 yards in the fourth quarter to break a 21-21 tie and give Santa Barbara a 27-21 victory at Lompoc in a game for sole possession of first place in the Channel League. He also contributed as a running back, rushing for 40 yards on nine carries.
The Dons are 3-0 in league, 6-2 overall and ranked fourth in CIF-SS Division 8.
Glasker stepped up for the Gauchos in a four-set win over Cal Poly that put them in a first-place tie with the Mustangs in the Big West at 6-1. She recorded a double-double of 10 kills and a team-high 16 digs and did a good job of starting the offense with her accurate passing.
The Gauchos are 16-2 on the season.
