Heidi Hatton of the Santa Barbara High girls tennis team and Westmont cross country runner Michael Oldach were named the Athletes of the Week at Monday’s Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table press luncheon at Harry’s Plaza Cafe.
Hatton, who has been hampered by injuries for a couple of years, demonstrated against Channel League rival Dos Pueblos that she is at full strength. Playing at No. 2 singles, she lost only four games in winning three sets to help the Dons beat the Chargers, 10-8.
Oldach bounced back from a tough outing a couple of weeks ago by winning the Master’s Invitational in a course-record time in Santa Clarita on Saturday. The senior ran the 8-kilometer course in 24 minutes, 51.8 seconds, out kicking two UCLA runners over the last 300 meters.
The other male athletes considered for the award were Sam Fletcher (UCSB soccer) and Kyle Nicklaw (SBCC soccer)
The female honorable mention choices include Portia Sherman (Dos Pueblos volleyball), Anna DiSorbo (Cate cross country), Chidera Chukmuweijie (Cate volleyball) and Erin Wilson (Westmont tennis).
