Emilia Petrachi made her marks as a digging machine for the UCSB women’s volleyball team and as an outstanding student in the classroom.
On Monday, she was honored as UCSB’s Scholar Athlete of the Year at the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table press luncheon at Harry’s Plaza Cafe.
The senior from Modena, Italy, carries a 3.78 grade point average and is graduating in June with a degree in Organic Chemistry. She’s been named to the university’s Dean’s List for multiple semesters, has earned Big West All-Academic honors and this season was named the Big West Scholar Athlete of the Year for women’s volleyball.
She is a member of the Society of Undergraduate Biologists on campus and tutors in the molecular, cellular developmental department.
Petrachi plans to pursue a master’s degree in reproductive science and women’s health at the London University College in London, England.
On the volleyball court, Petrachi scrambled all over the court to keep plays alive for the Gauchos. She led the Big West in digs per set three times and total digs twice during her career.
Eight times she was honored at the Defensive Player of the Week, a conference record.
She ranks seventh all-time in total digs at UCSB and is fourth all-time in the Big West with 1,977 digs. She is fifth in the Big West in career dig average at 4.80.
Petrachi was team captain this past season. The awards she’s received in her career include All Big West freshman team, conference honorable mention as a junior and first-team All Big West as a senior.
She also works with young volleyball players as a teacher and coach with the So Cal Santa Barbara Volleyball Club 16-under team.
