Dos Pueblos running back Manny Nwosu and Santa Barbara High kicker Alea Hyatt were honored as the Athletes of the Week at Monday’s Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table press luncheon.
Nwosu, a 6-foot, 195-pound senior, amassed five touchdowns and 340 all-purpose yards in the Chargers’ 53-28 win over Carpinteria. He rushed 16 times for 218 yards and a hefty 13.6-yard average. He also had 87 receiving yards and 35 in kick returns.
His night could have been even bigger if two long TD plays weren’t erased by penalties – a 73-yard run and an 87-yard screen pass.
Hyatt, a star soccer player who has a scholarship to North Carolina, made her football debut on Friday and kicked two field goals and three extra points in a 27-20 triumph over Pacifica. One of her field goals was a 36-yarder that snapped a 17-17 tie.
Honorable mention choices were Mike Soracco (Bishop Diego football), Nick DePuy (UCSB soccer), Carolin Chang (SBCC women’s golf), Katelynn Womack (SBCC volleyball), Renee Handley and Sarah Yang (San Marcos tennis).
