Westmont’s Brandon Gildea and UCSB’s Shelby Wisdom were announced as Athletes of the Week at the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table press luncheon on Monday.
Gildea and the Westmont baseball team won four-straight elimination games over the weekend to win the GSAC Tournament title and earn an automatic berth into the national NAIA Tournament.
Gildea went 13-for-19 in those four games while taking care of the team’s catching responsibilities on defense. The senior scored a pair of runs and drove in five.
“It was a great weekend for the guys and for the program,” said Warriors head coach Robert Ruiz.
With three wins over UC Riverside, Wisdom tied UCSB’s career record for wins as a pitcher at 62. The senior held Riverside to a total of three earned runs in three games. On offense, Wisdon added a home run and was a combined 6-for-10 in the series with three runs scored.
Wisdom also picked up the Big West Conference Pitcher of the Week award on Monday.
