A shot stopper and a shot maker were recognized as the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table Athletes of the Week.
San Marcos water polo goalie Jenna Phreaner and Carpinteria basketball player Omar Miranda were the honored athletes at Monday’s SBART press luncheon at Harry’s Plaza Cafe
Phreaner made 40 saves in five matches to help the Royals finish a program-best sixth place at the Southern California Championships in Irvine. She had 12 saves in a 6-5 tournament win over crosstown rival Santa Barbara. Phreaner and the Royals play host to Santa Barbara on Thursday for a chance earn a co-championship in the Channel League.
Miranda has stepped up to lead the Carpinteria boys basketball team after teammate Bryson Frazer went down with a knee injury. In two important games last week, Miranda scored 18 points in a win over Santa Paula and followed with a 26-point performance in a victory over Grace Brethren. The wins set up a Frontier League title showdown at Nordhoff on Wednesday. If the Warriors win, they’ll be co-champions with the Rangers.
The male honorable mention choices for the award are Scott Everman (San Marcos basketball), C.J. Miller (Westmont College basketball), Andrew Vignolo (Laguna Blanca basketball), Noah Burke (Santa Barbara High basketball), Asher Luberto (Providence basketball) and Weston Nielsen (UCSB volleyball).
The female honorable mention are Elysia Hodges (Westmont track and field), Taryn Phipps (Westmont track and field) and Shelby Wisdom (UCSB softball).
