Even football teams have moms.
Terri Jellison was recognized for her work as the team mom for the Santa Barbara High football team. She was named the Maho and Prentice Sports Person of the Month at Monday’s Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table press luncheon.
“Terri is the backbone of our football program,” Santa Barbara Athletic Director Joe Chenoweth said. “It is truly the person who not only works for the coaches but works for the parents, works for the athletic department, works for the kids. She was a candidate that was easy to pick for this award
Jellison is involved in several facets of football operations at the high school. She organizes fund raising, coordinates game-day duties for the other football parents, helps in the designing and distribution of the game program, buys equipment and pays bills.
“She does everything, and not a lot of people know about it,” said Chenoweth.
Terri’s husband, Brad, also puts in time to help with the football team.
Carpinteria football coach Ben Hallock chimed in about the recognition of a team mom.
“Team moms coming in and helping is such a labor of love and act of love for the kids,” he said. “The kind of things they do takes such a burden off the coach. It’s so nice when somebody steps up and does things and does them well.”
