SBCC’s Joel Medina and Westmont’s Madison Serrano were recognized as Athletes of the Week at Monday’s Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table press luncheon at Harry’s Cafe.
Medina, a sophomore linebacker from Santa Barbara, was a key piece of the Vaquero defensive effort that starred in Saturday’s 14-6 American Pacific Conference victory over L.A. Valley. Medina recorded nine tackles, 2.5 of them for a loss, and added a sack. SBCC’s defense secured the victory by holding L.A. Southwest to 31 total yards and just one first down in the second half.
Serrano is a key piece for the Warriors’ fifth-ranked team. The Warriors, 17-2 on the season, nearly knocked off the No. 2 team in the NAIA on Tuesday, but came back to win on Friday against No. 9 Cal State San Marcos. Serrano totaled 17 kills, 25 digs and 26 serve receptions in Friday’s win. On Saturday, Serrano tallied 15 kills and hit .400 in a three-game sweep of San Diego Christian.
