Athletes of the Week:
Elysia Hodges worked like an ironwoman for the San Marcos track team in its dual meet with Dos Pueblos. She won the 100, 110 hurdles, 300 hurdles and ran in the 800 meters. On Saturday, she earned county championships in the 100-meter dash and 300 hurdles, and was the opening leg of the Royals 4×400 relay team, which established a county record.
Jeff Menzel was on fire for the UCSB volleyball team on Friday night, blasting a match-high 27 kills to lead the Gauchos to an upset at BYU in the quarterfinals of the MPSF Tournament.
