ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
Janelle Wong, SBCC Basketball — Wong, a 5-10 sophomore from Dos Pueblos, scored 34 points and canned nine 3-pointers in wins over Hancock and Cuesta. She made four triples in the first eight minutes of a 70-51 win at Cuesta on Saturday and finished with a career-high 19 points. SBCC (20-10) was seeded 15th in the 18-team Southern Cal Regional and will play host to No. 18 L.A. Trade Tech on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
Sanford Spivey, SBHS Soccer — Spivey scored all three goals in No. 2 Santa Barbara’s first-round win over visiting Chaminade last week. The game was held in driving rain and muddy conditions at Peabody Stadium.
