Antonia Antes, SBCC Volleyball — Antes had eight kills, two aces and hit .538 in a sweep at Oxnard, then had a team-high 14 kills in a 3-0 home sweep of No. 18 Moorpark that vaulted the 11th-ranked Vaqueros into a first-place tie in the WSC North with one match remaining. SBCC (19-5, 8-1 WSC) has won five straight matches (the last four by sweep) and 11 of its last 12.
Nicolai Bornand, Dos Pueblos football — Bornand, a sophomore kicker, nailed what was perhaps the biggest field goal in DP football history on Friday by just clearing the crossbar on a 40-yarder with 11 seconds remaining to seal the Chargers’ 30-27 win and first Channel League title in 31 years. He had everyone praying on the sidelines, and was admittedly nervous himself after missing from 22 and 27 yards earlier in the game.
