ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
Sergey Sushchikh, Dos Pueblos Cross Country – Sushchikh has been truly untouchable this year, having yet to lose a race. He shattered the course record by 17 seconds last week in a Channel League meet in Ventura. His coach, Leslie Roth, said he didn’t even look tired after the race was over.
Taryn Mjelde, Santa Barbara High Tennis – The Dons’ girls team has won a jaw-dropping 30 consecutive Channel League tennis titles, and Mjelde was the catalyst in championship-clinching wins over Dos Pueblos and San Marcos last week. She went unbeaten in both matches, defeating an opponent in one set that she had never beaten before. She also won two singles sets and a doubles set at the Dana Hills All-American Tournament over the weekend.
