Male Athlete of the Week David Walker has scored both of the UCSB men’s soccer team’s goals in the NCAA Tournament. The first came in a home game against Wofford and the second against a big, bruising University of San Diego team on the road. The pair of 1-0 victories have the Gauchos in the round of 16, where they will play at UCLA in a rematch of the 2006 National Championship game.
Female Athlete of the Week Sammie Brown, a senior setter for Dos Pueblos, was on fire as the Chargers swept Huntington Beach in less than an hour to claim the CIF-SS Division I-A girls volleyball title. She made numerous highlight-reel plays, including a beautiful one-handed quick set in the third set. She also had 10 kills in the game without a hitting error.
