Male Athlete of the Week Danny Barrera came up big on a big stage, scoring the first goal in the No. 11 UCSB men’s soccer team’s 3-0 win over ninth-ranked Indiana at Harder Stadium on Friday Night. Attendance at the match was 10,214 — a school record for a regular season match. Barrera also had an assist in the game.
Stanford-bound Dos Pueblos volleyball player Samantha Wopat, just like Barrera, stepped up in a huge game. Wopat had 19 kills with just three errors to go along with eight digs and seven aces as the Chargers roared back from an 0-2 deficit to beat Santa Barbara in a rematch of last year’s CIF Finals.
