Female Athlete of the Week Rebecca Saraceno led the UCSB women’s volleyball team to a perfect 3-0 record last week, including a five-set, come-from-behind triumph over No. 21 UC Irvine on Saturday night. Saraceno recorded a career-high 29 kills in that match and had double-doubles in the two previous matches. For her efforts, Saraceno was named Big West Player of the Week for the second time this season.
Dos Pueblos’ Sergey Sushchikh turned heads last week by winning two different races. The junior proved he’s the one to beat in the Channel League this year by winning the league’s first meet on Wednesday and followed that up by winning Saturday’s Lagoon Meet at UCSB.
